How do I get my dog used to the Rex Specs dog goggles?

Wearing dog glasses is new for your dog – practice, patience and perseverance will help him and you get used to the glasses.

Remove the lenses from the goggles the first few times you try them on. This will help your dog get used to the goggles without being distracted by the lenses.

Keep the first few attempts at wearing the glasses short (not all day) and make sure your dog is kept busy while wearing the glasses - walk your dog on a leash, let him catch his toy or whatever you think is the most appropriate activity and distraction. Also make sure the dog does not take the glasses off. He will get used to wearing them!

Once your dog has gotten used to wearing the glasses frame, you can insert the clear lens. Then insert the tinted lens. All lenses offer up to 100% UVA and UVB protection.

Adjust Rex Specs:
Adjust the straps to fit your dog. A perfect fit will ensure that the goggles stay in place and are as comfortable as possible for your dog to wear.

Make sure the elastic band on the muzzle is neither too tight nor too loose.
Your dog should have complete freedom of movement in the muzzle and jaw area.

Make sure the side straps are tight enough to create a slight angle on the main strap.

You can find out how to optimally adjust the straps on this page.

Getting your dog used to glasses

Rex Specs training tips

In these 4 videos from Work Your Pack you can see the structure of a glasses training.

Make sure that introducing the glasses is part of a positive experience! Let your dog examine the glasses rather than shoving them in his face. Be patient and remember that all dogs are different. Let's start training!

Video 1: Before you start

start of training

Get your dog used to the goggles slowly. Start with no lenses in the goggles and reward your dog with food (or another favorite activity) when the dog associates the goggles with a positive experience. Get the dog to voluntarily bring his nose to the goggles to receive a reward. Add a "cue" or marker word for further training - "Gear Up" is our favorite.

Video 2: First Steps

Video 3: Increase wearing time and adjust straps

Now that your dog knows his cue, work on the duration. Slowly increase the amount of time the goggles are on the dog's face. Once you see that he is comfortable with them, move on to putting the straps around his head and then closing the clasp. For some dogs, this may only take a few sessions, but for others, it may take several days. Be patient and repeat the process as needed.

Video 4: Training in motion

Now that your dog has a positive association with wearing the goggles, you can begin. The main goal is to add time and movement to the training by having your dog follow a food line on the floor, using lures, or even practicing tricks or obedience. Once your dog is happy with the goggles, insert the lens and repeat the training. You don't have to go as slowly as before, but the most important thing is that the perception with the lens in is the same as before without. Have fun!Add text to a video to showcase a detail of your brand or product line.
